New York, NY / November 30, 2020 - Vino Verified brings transparency to the wine industry, starting from the vineyard practices employed, through to what happens in the cellar, up until the time the wine reaches the consumer’s glass. Our platform brings relevant details to the consumer regarding farming methods, the approach taken in the cellar, and what steps the winery is taking regarding sustainability. Examples include what kind of fertilizers were used, and whether indigenous yeasts were used. In terms of environmental impact, Vino Verified conveys information such as whether cover crops are used. All of these influence purchases.

The Vino Verified app uses NFC technology: for the wines on our platform, special Vino Verified NFC tags are attached to the bottles. Once the consumer has downloaded our app, they can scan these tags simply by holding their phone to the tag while in their favorite wine shop, thereby informing purchases. In addition to summary information, the app also provides the inside story of a wine and the producer. We provide links to relevant media, so the consumer can delve deeper once they get home if they wish.

The Vino Verified platform provides the same information available in our app via a browser extension (currently Chrome and soon to be Safari). Especially given limited in-person shopping during Covid, consumers now have access to an enriched online wine shopping experience while continuing to use their local shops’ websites. The browser extension needs to be downloaded once only, and then consumers can access information for Vino Verified wines via all our partner stores’ websites.

People have become more conscious of what they are consuming. In addition to identifying the wine and where the grapes were grown, the only information required to be on the label is whether the wine contains sulfites (almost all do), the alcohol content to within 0.5%, and certain color additives. Yet there are over 60 substances that can legally be added to wine or used in its production. Vino Verified works with producers who are happy to share everything that went into producing their wine. Consumers can then make an informed choice on their purchase, while getting the story of the wine directly from the winemaker.
